APPARATUS DELIVERIES: Nova Scotia, Canada, the Cape Breton Regional Fire Service

In Nova Scotia, Canada, the Cape Breton Regional Fire Service operates this FORT GARRY INDUSTRIES rescue pumper first-due to the Ashby area of the city of Sydney. Deputy Chief George T. Muise says it responds as a support engine to other areas and to local auto extrications and those in surrounding communities.

The Plainfield (IN) Fire Department designed this E-ONE pumper as a first response vehicle with rescue capabilities in its district, explains Battalion Chief Mike Hildebrand. It also responds to heavy EMS runs in the district.

The Ranger Hose Company in Girardville, Pennsylvania, designed this KME pumper with a short wheelbase to fit the streets of the community, explains Chief Frank Zangari. The ladders are accessible from the rear and side. The unit also responds to all rescue calls.

The Nelson (WI) Fire Department designed this W.S.DARLEY unit as a pumper and a tanker, explains Chief Barry Johnson. Since the department protects a nonhydranted rural area, the pumper has a CAFS to conserve water and provide quick knockdown.

The Leland (IL) Fire Protection District designed this ALEXIS pumper-tanker with a large water tank to protect a rural area and to enable operating with limited staffing, explains Chief Ed Hecathom.

The Lower Valley Fire Protection District in Fruita, Colorado, protects agricultural, industrial, and residential communities. Because of a limited number of hydrants, the department designed this PIERCE pumper with a larger water tank for a strong initial attack, according to Chief Frank Cavaliere. The top-mount pump panel allows better operator visibility.
