Arrangements have been set for Chicago Fire Captain Herbie Johnson who died while battling a house fire. Visitation is Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m. at St. Rita High School at 7740 South Western Avenue in Chicago, reports the Chicago Daily Herald.
A funeral mass will be at the same location on Thursday at 11a.m. Family and fellow firefighters honored fallen Captain Herbert Johnson during several special events on Saturday.
Work did not stop Saturday night for the firefighters of Engine 123 Tower Ladder 39, even as they continue to mourn the loss of their colleague and friend.
“Herbie was larger than life,” said Deputy Fire Commissioner John McNicholas. “Herbie was a true leader and a fireman’s fireman.”
At Johnson’s home, a steady stream of family and friends came to pay their respects. Known for the large number of first responders who live here, trees along Johnson’s neighborhood were wrapped with the traditional purple and black bunting.
