Arson Investigators Re-Open Case that Killed Kentucky Firefighter

The 20-year-old arson case that caused the death of a Highview firefighter is resurfacing as detectives ask for the public’s help finding the person who started the fire, reports wlky.com.

The memory of firefighter Craig Drury remains present at the Highview Fire Department.

Every firefighter wears a No. 13 pin, which was Drury’s favorite number and a memorial case holds his fire gear.

Detectives found that the fire was no accident., but the question of who started the fire remains.

The homeowners, among others, remain suspects today.

Maj. Henry Ott with Louisville Arson has been reworking old leads, but he needs help from the public.

“We just want to try and bring some closure to it because some of the people involved are starting to die off because of their age,” Ott said.

A sign now stands where the fire once burned in hopes of generating tips.

“It has been 20 years. It is time. If you have the smallest little bit of information that you think might not even be important, call Maj. Ott. Let him determine that that wasn’t a big deal or let him determine that it was, but don’t hold it. It has been 20 years and really it is time,” said  Highview Deputy Chief Rob Dwyer.
