Asheville Fire Investigated as Possible Arson

A fire that gutted an abandoned building in downtown Asheville last night may have been arson, reports (

Investigators haven’t been able to get inside the building just yet. Callers reported smoke showing at the two-story commercial structure that had been abandoned for some time.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to dump water down on the flames, doing all of their work from the outside and putting the fire out in about two hours.

What they know today leads them to believe someone set it.

Kelley Klope, Asheville Fire Department, “What we have determined is that it is suspicious in nature obviously because there was no electricity or gas line into that structure.”
