At Least Seven Injured in Bronx (NY) Fire

Three firefighters were hurt in a fire that seriously injured a number of civilians Sunday in the Bronx in New York City.

CBS New York reports that ( the fire occurred just before 5:30 p.m. in an apartment building at 941 Intervale Avenue. The fire began on the building’s first floor and blocked residents’ path, so everyone had to use the fire escape.

Two of the victims were reported in critical condition, and two others in serious, but stable, condition. One of the victims was a 14-year-old girl, but it was not immediately clear into which group she fell. One woman was injured when she fell from the fire escape.

The firefighters suffered only minor injuries. A police officer also was reportedly hurt in the incident.

The fire was allegedly sparked by some children playing with matches.
