ATF: No Evidence Houston Mosque Fire was Hate Crime

Federal investigators say that there is no evidence that a two-alarm fire at a Houston mosque was a hate crime, reports khou.com (http://bit.ly/1OwJC67)

Investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the cause of the fire is incendiary.

The FBI is not involved in the investigation, because there’s no evidence this was a hate crime.

Investigators continue to work around the clock and say that this is a fluid, active investigation.

Nicole Strong, public information officer for the ATF, said investigators are still going through all the evidence, but they can’t give any specifics about what the evidence is.

Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department initially responded to the fire Friday afternoon.

The fire was put out shortly after crews arrived on the scene and no injuries were reported.

On Saturday, congregants prayed in a different space from their usual mosque. They gathered in a temporary space nearby, in the same shopping plaza located in the 11200 block of South Wilcrest near Belfort.
