According to an attorney representing the Ohio city, there’s no going back for Cincinnati in its effort to lay off hundreds of firefighters and police officers.
City Solicitor John Curp said layoffs would be needed to temporarily balance the 2014 budget, according to a report from WCPO (http://bit.ly/16dZO5d). Once another budgetary dispute is finished, laid off municipal employees might be called back to work, but that could take months.
The layoffs would include 120 firefighters and 196 positions in the police department.
Layoff notices will be sent to employees on May 20 at the earliest and June 3 at the latest. Layoffs likely will happen on June 9.
