Azure Solutions Announces Contract Award from Con Edison

Azure Solutions announced that it has been awarded a contract to supply the IFEX Impulse Fire Extinguishing System to Con Edison of New York (NY).

Using only water and compressed air, IFEX systems provide incredibly quick fire knockdown, rapid cooling and reduced collateral damage, improve response, speed to scene and protection capabilities and create previously unthinkable possibilities for increased efficiency and productivity.

Available in portable, mobile and fixed configurations, IFEX systems are available to meet a wide variety of applications and can provide firefighting capability more efficiently, with fewer resources and in previously inaccessible locations.

Under the terms of the contract, Azure has supplied a number of portable backpack and trolley IFEX systems to Con Edison for additional testing, research and development and field firefighting use.

“The IFEX seems to be the perfect firefighting tool for the utility industry.  It has impressive knock‐down capabilities coupled with water management.  Historically the central focus was to extinguish the fire; now the expectation is that the fire should be extinguished without any collateral damage from suppression operations or environmental runoff.  The IFEX has become an attractive selection since it enables us to meet all of these goals,” said Anthony J. Natale, Senior Specialist, Emergency Response Group, Con Edison.

“We are pleased to be working with Con Edison.  As a utility that has been an innovative, integral and vital part of the communities it has served for more than 180 years, Con Edison is also a leader in utility emergency response, and we are excited about its adoption of IFEX.  Its recognition of the powerful and unique attributes and capabilities of IFEX, of which over 10,000 systems are in use in over 60 countries, is an affirmation of the system’s ability to knock down fires quickly, deliver rapid cooling and reduce collateral damage without the need for any pumps or motors,” said Scott Krakauer, vice president of Azure Solutions, the North American distributor of IFEX.
