Baltimore City (MD) Fire Department Adds New Position for Incident Management

The Baltimore City (MD) Fire Department has added a new position to its fireground management structure in a pilot program that began earlier this week, as reported by CBS and the Baltimore Sun.

The new battalion technician position is staffed by a firefighter who assists the battalion chief with incident management on scene. This member reportedly will assist the battalion chief with accountability and communication during firefighting operations.

The move comes in the wake of the resignation of Fire Chief Niles Ford and the relase of the report on the South Stricker Street fire, which claimed the lives of three firefighters in January 2022.
