Just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, Baltimore County (MD) Fire Department (BCoFD) westside units were alerted for Fire Box 3-19, reporting an apartment fire in the 2400 block of Bytham Court in the Windsor Mill area.
While units were en route, fire dispatch advised Batallion Chief 24 that there were multiple 911 calls being received, with at least one report of a person in a wheelchair who was unable to escape the building, which prompted the dispatch of a Fire Rescue box. Fire dispatch then alerted responding units that Baltimore County Police were on the scene advising multiple apartment units were on fire.
BCoFD Truck 13 arrived and reported heavy fire showing from Side B of a three-story apartment building (Building #2406) with fire through the roof. A working fire dispatch was requested, followed quickly by a second alarm as the fire extended into the attached building next door.
Firefighters used ladder pipes from Trucks 13 and 18 and multiple handlines to control the gas-fed fire, which was placed under control around 4:30 p.m. All 12 units of the building were determined to be uninhabitable and the American Red Cross was requested to assist the occupants. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
