Baton Rouge (LA) Fire Captain Dies After Suffering Medical Emergency

A Baton Rouge (LA) firefighter has died after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, while on-duty, Captain Walker L. Hill, 48, suffered a medical emergency. He was immediately treated and then transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with a suspected cerebrovascular accident. He passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

According to the department, Captain Hill began his career with the Baton Rouge Fire Department on August 18, 1998, and was promoted to captain in 2017. During his time of service, he received four lifesaving awards, two fire service excellence citations, and even assisted in delivering a baby.
