A Cal Fire battalion chief died Saturday evening in Santa Cruz, California.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/VYCunI) Battalion Chief Rob Van Wormer, 47, who had worked in the Santa Clara County unit, was in Santa Cruz working on an investigation when he lost consciousness and was rushed to an area hospital, where he subsequently died.
Van Wormer had been with Cal Fire for 24 years.
“He has a long history of doing some pretty high-profile fire investigations, and also has a long history in the Cal Fire air program,” Cal Fire spokeswoman Angela Bernheisel said.
No additional information about the cause of his death was released.
