Bill would increase fire department access to thermal imaging cameras

The Access to Thermal Imaging Cameras Act (H.R. 1839), introduced by Congressman Bob Franks (R-NJ), would make available in Fiscal Year 2000 $100 million to the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency for grants to fire departments for the acquisition of thermal imaging cameras. The grants would be awarded on a competitive basis. Fire departments would have to match 33 percent of the grant total. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
