The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) and the FDNY Foundation are unveiling a new commemorative book marking the 150th anniversary of the New York City fire department.
The book, entitled “FDNY 150, Celebrating the Past, Present and Future,” includes articles by Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro and Chief of Department James Leonard, as well as historical photographs and a summary of the history of the FDNY.
“This book is a celebration of the Department’s lifesaving mission, storied history and dedication to this great city we serve,” said Fire Commissioner Nigro. “It allows us an opportunity to look back on the rich history of the FDNY as we also look forward to the future.”

The Foundation is releasing the book as a part of the Department’s 150th anniversary celebration. The yearlong celebration includes special FDNY involvement at parades, festivals, sporting events, concerts, and attractions around the city.
“The FDNY has such an incredible history,” said FDNY Foundation Board Chairman Stephen Ruzow. “This anniversary is the perfect opportunity to publish a book like this, which examines where the Department has come from and where it is headed in the future. It is an exciting time for the FDNY and we are thrilled to be a part of this special endeavor.”
“We at the Foundation have been the recipients of such amazing generosity,” said FDNY Foundation Executive Director Jean O’Shea. “We are proud to honor that support by publishing this book, which in turn honors the work of the Department over these 150 years.”
The limited edition book is currently available for pre-sale and will ship May 15.
