Boston (MA) – The Boston Police Department (BPD) are probing allegations concerning kickbacks and misuse of taxpayer funds at the city’s firefighter training academy, including claims that recruits were asked to pay for gear and other equipment that was already bought with Boston Fire Department (BFD) cash.

Instructors who worked at the academy on Moon Island are currently being interviewed. Paris said that the questioning has focused on the use of department training money.

Sources confirmed that the BPD’s anticorruption unit investigators have been questioning BFD employees about payments made by recruits allegedly for job-related materials that are regularly funded in the city budget. Investigators also are looking into allegations that a private vendor paid off a BFD employee’s personal credit card.
