Brooklyn (NY) – A 7-year-old boy was killed by a quick-moving fire that engulfed a Brooklyn apartment building early Sunday.

The three-alarm fire broke out around 1:20 a.m. inside the three-story building on Decatur Streer in the Bushwick section, officials said.

Joel Smith was found unconscious inside and died at the scene, police said. Three other people were injured, one critically, and rushed to local hospitals.

It took firefighters almost an hour and a half to bring the ferocious fire under control. Neighbors said the fire began on the first floor, where the boy lived with his family.
