A fire near Compton, California, killed a 4-year-old boy on Thursday afternoon. The child was pulled from a burning home after firefighters found him unconscious near a first-floor bathroom, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.
The report indicated that the victim’s mother escaped the home as the fire spread and alerted firefighters that her son was still in the house. Firefighters pulled the child from the house and began administering CPR before he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to officals.
The report indicated that the child apparently died of smoke inhalation.
