The Boynton Beach Firefighter Benevolent Association is proud to announce this year’s recipients of two $1000.00 college scholarships offered annually to the two outstanding seniors at Boynton Beach Community High School. Emily Tuan and Victor Baten have been chosen as this year’s winners based on stringent criteria set forth by the Benevolent Association.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for Grade 11 followed by a 3.5 GPA in their senior year. A scholarship committee made up of Benevolent Association leaders next considers each qualified applicant’s record of school or community related honors and awards, offices and positions of leadership, memberships in various organizations and extracurricular activities. Finally, a one-page essay detailing the candidate’s academic, career and life goals must be evaluated for content, as well as writing skills. Funding for the Benevolent scholarship program comes from the organization’s numerous charitable events throughout the year.
