A 500-acre brush fire is burning in a training area at Fort Hood, reports kxan.com.
The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the “live-fire impact area” north of the Blackwell multi-use range.
A post official told the Killeen Daily Herald the fire was burning in an area that may include unexploded devices.
Helicopters were being staged to fight the fire and ground forces were on standby while officials surveyed the scene. The Bell County Strike Team was also standing by to assist if needed.
