CA Restaurants Evacuated When Crawl Space Catches Fire

Two restaurants were evacuated Thursday night when fire broke out in a crawl space behind a facade at a shopping center in San Jose, California.

The Mercury News reports (http://bit.ly/YJd9zJ) that San Jose firefighters responded to the shopping center at 4898 San Felipe Road after reports of light smoke inside the Pasta Pomodoro and Panda Express restaurants there. No fire was found in either restaurant, which were evacuated, according to Captain Mike Van Elgort.

The fire went to three alarms as a precaution because of the size of the shopping center and reports that people were still in the buildings. Crews took to the roof in search of the fire.

“It took some detective work, but they found the source of heat and smoke in a crawl space between the facade sign space and the attic,” Van Elgort told reporters. “Once it was located it was quickly knocked down.”
