A congressional panel Tuesday will look at whether the 2009 Station Fire that killed two firefighters and destroyed 89 homes could have been contained before it caused so much damage, a report from the Associated Press says. The wildfire had raised questions about the U.S. Forest Service’s policy prohibiting nighttime helicopter water drops and if budget concerns constrained the service’s use of resources, as suggested in a review by the Agriculture Department.
The Station Fire burned for more than a month in Southern California and killed two Los Angeles County (CA) firefighters, Capt. Tedmund “Ted” Hall and Specialist Arnaldo “Arnie” Quinones.
