California Recycling Plant Fire Causes $2.5 Million Damages

A fire in a plastics recycling plant near Terra Bella (CA) caused $2.5 million in damage, reports the Fresno Bee.

The two-alarm fire broke out about 1 p.m. Thursday and destroyed a 90-foot by 40-foot metal building used by Tuff Stuff Products for shredding and compacting plastic waste. The company manufactures plastic tubs.

The fire ignited a pile of plastic being processed, sending up a plume of black smoke visible for miles.
The fire was put out by about 6 p.m. Thursday, but firefighters stayed the night in case of flare-ups, Battalion Chief Mike Green said.

Investigators searched the debris Friday and will finish a report on the cause of the fire early next week, he said.
