California Wildfire Grows to 2500 Acres

Firefighters are struggling to contain a sprawling Placer County (CA) wildfire that destroyed one home and threatens another 170, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Robbers Fire has burned 2,500 acres of forestland since it started Wednesday, about 40 miles northeast of Auburn, said a Cal Fire spokesman. The fire is just 30 percent contained.

Steep terrain, high temperatures and windy weather have made it difficult for firefighters to surround the fire. While temperatures fell over the weekend, the wind picked up and fanned the flames.
More than 2,100 firefighters will spend the day trying to contain the fire. Crews will focus on the northern edge of the blaze, where the wind has pushed the flames.
