California Wildfire Now 55 Percent Contained

The Shockey Fire (CA) is 55 percent conatined but has grown to 2,500 acres and is threatening 35 homes, reports San Diego 6.

The fire has already destroyed 20 homes and killed a disabled 82-year-old man.

Evacuees were largely notified of the threat via the county’s “reverse 911” emergency telephone system. As of Monday night, the evacuation orders were lifted for Boulevard and Jewel Valley but remained in place for Tierra del Sol.

The fire was 40 percent contained Tuesdday morning — up from 10 percent Monday morning. The reported charred acreage stood at 1,700 acres Monday morning.

A total of 955 fire personnel, 87 engines, three helicopters, eight bulldozers and eight water trucks were assigned to the lines as of Monday night, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Mohler said. About two dozen deputies were assisting the fire crews, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Caldwell.
