An explosion, caused by a fire at a log construction business, killed one volunteer firefighter and injured another in the north Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada, on Thursday morning, according to a report from CBC News.
The report indicates that the fire began at approximately 4 a.m. PT at Sperlich Log Construction, in Enderby, about 35 kilometres north of Vernon. Approximately two dozen area volunteer firefighters believed that the fire was under control when a shed exploded killing one firefighter and injuring another.
Firefighter Daniel Botkin, 29, was killed when the shed suddenly exploded after 5 a.m. after he and his crew had worked quickly to put out the fire, according to another report from The Province later Thursday afternoon. Botkin leaves behind his wife Miranda, whom he had married just this year.
