Colville (WA) – There were tears of sadness in Colville Sunday night as the community rallied around two families who lost two young boys in a devastating fire last Friday. More than 400 people showed up to a candlelight vigil at the Colville Community Ag Center.
Many of those in attendance knew the family, but some did not. They were so touched by the loss they decided to pay their respects and show support for the family.
The two boys were killed early Friday morning when the apartment they were in caught fire.
By the time crews from the Colville Fire Department (CFD) arrived on the scene at 1:42 am the apartment complex was already overtaken by flames.
According to CFD Chief Brad Manke, the fire had already progressed to a stage that firefighters were unable to make entry. They instead began an exterior attack, cooling and extinguishing the fire until they could get inside.
By the time they made it inside, it was too late to save the two boys, aged 4 and 7.
An adult woman and a girl escaped and were treated at Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville for minor fire-related injuries. They are expected to be alright.
