CHANGE

CHANGE

EDITOR’S OPINION

They tell us that change is for the better. And so it is my duty to report on changes that affect Fire Engineering.

First, we’ve moved! Everyone likes to get out of the city and into the suburbs. Magazines are no different. Fire Engineering has left downtown Manhattan for the rolling hills of Saddle Brook, New Jersey, where we’ll be just as accessible and willing to help in any way.

Our new address, telephone number, and fax number are listed on this (and every) masthead to the right of this column.

The second change, one of personal mixed emotions, is with me: I’m removing myself as editor of ire Engineering after seven years in the position. While there are many reasons and more rumors, the truth is that I want to participate more in additional projects that focus on quality information for our fire service membership—Fire Engineering books and videos, written and oral training programs, active association and interaction, higher education, and even the promise of a television training network for the fire service.

I will remain as technical director and writer for Fire Engineering and assist in the transition of editorial management into the hands of our new editor, Bill Manning.

Bill has served with me as managing editor and, as titles go, that in no way describes his efforts, success, and worth. He and Diane Feldman, our new managing editor, have produced virtually every page of this magazine, month after month. Our daily dialogue has greatly increased their knowledge, understanding, and feeling for our fire service. Those of you who have talked with them know this; those of you who haven’t will learn it. Please give Bill, Diane, and their staff your continued support.

My friends, I loved working with and for you all these years. I hope you’ll allow me to remain your friend for the coming years. You can get in touch with me through the magazine, at home (516-567-0749), or at 212-340-7580.

Last month I told you how much you mean to me and this magazine. This month I want to tell you of my love and affection for you all. If there is ever anything I can do for or with you, just whistle.

Thanks again! Be safe.
