Chattanooga (TN) Firefighter Injured After Being Hit By Car

A Chattanooga (TN) firefighter was seriously injured shortly after 9:00 Sunday night on East Brainerd Road. Firefighters with Quint 21 responded to a wreck at 7934 East Brainerd Road. While on the scene, Lt. Larry O’Rear was struck by a passing vehicle.

Based on witness information, the firefighter was standing on the double yellow line safely in the utility lane area flagging westbound traffic. According to a report from the Chattanooga Police Department, a red Mercedes traveling (eastbound) in the lane closest to the utility lane struck the firefighter, sending him over the passenger side of her vehicle.

Lt. O’Rear was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening and he is listed in stable condition.
