Chicago Firefighter Dies After Fire Response

A veteran Chicago (IL) firefighter died overnight after going into cardiac arrest hours after responding to a fire call.

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/SWNe27) that the 18-year veteran firefighter was 61 years old. His name has not been released pending notification of family members.

The firefighter responded to a fire in a kitchen on the city’s South Side.

After returning to his firehouse, the firefighter experienced shortness of breath while cleaning equipment. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead.
