The children of a Chicago (IL) firefighter who was killed while operating at an abandoned laundromat last year are suing the owners of the building, claiming that the owners’ failure to maintain the structure contributed to their father’s death, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
Edward Stringer, 47, was among the firefighters dispatched to a fire at the abandoned building on December 22, 2010. While some of the firefighters went inside to put the fire out, others cut holes in the roof to ventilate the building. The roof suddenly collapsed, killing Stringer and Corey Ankum, 34, and injuring 19 others. Read more on the NIOSH LODD report on the incident HERE.
