Child Dies After Fire at Brooklyn Center (MN) Apartment

A two-year-old child is dead following a fire at a Brooklyn Center apartment, reports KARE 11.

Authorities say they arrived on scene to find a unit on the second floor of the Twin Lake North Apartments, on the 4500 block of 58th Avenue North, fully engulfed in flames. An initial call was made around 11:28 a.m. on Friday.

Investigators told KARE 11 that a man in his 20’s jumped from the second story balcony after he was overwhelmed by smoke and fire while trying to rescue his 2-year-old brother.

An emergency entrance was made into the apartment and the child was discovered in a back bedroom. He later died at North Memorial Hospital.
