Child Killed in South Florida Apartment Fire

A young child has died after firefighters responded to an apartment fire in Lauderhill, reports NBC Miami

The fire was reported on the second floor of the building at 2031 Northwest 59th Way. When firefighters responded, the second story was fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

Two brothers, 9-year-old Justin Isme and 8-year-old Jayden Isme, were upstairs. Justin was able to jump to safety and find a neighbor who called 911.

But Jayden, the other brother, became trapped inside and his body was later found by firefighters, officials said.

“The brother that was in the bedroom with him did not make it out,” Lauderhill Police spokesman Lt. Mike Butkus said.

Police confirmed the children had been left home alone, but it is still unclear why.
