The City of Dubuque, Iowa (population 58,000), invites applications for the position of Fire Chief. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the activities of a 90 member department, which includes administrative support, fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services and training. Extensive fire service experience at the management level and a bachelor’s degree in fire science, fire administration, public administration, business administration or related field is preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in a fire department, or three years of experience in a fire department and two years of comparable experience or educational training is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to follow a management philosophy that is input oriented and values problem solving and the development of partnerships, and a desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork. The City offers an annual salary range of $93,142 to $121,763, and an attractive benefit package. A written examination will be conducted on March 4, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Orpheum Room in the Five Flags Civic Center located at Fourth and Locust Streets in Dubuque. Other test sites will be established for applicants who reside some distance from Dubuque. Remote test sites will be announced at a later date.
