CO Firefighter Injured Battling House Fire

A house fire caused by smoking materials injured a South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) firefighter early Monday morning.

The fire was reported at 11:50 p.m. on Sunday as a possible house fire on Bowles Avenue, CBS Colorado reports.

The caller, who was unfamiliar with the area, described flames coming through the roof of a home. Dispatchers identified the location using the caller’s cell phone.

SMFR and Littleton Police responded to the scene at 3423 West Bowles Avenue and confirmed a fully involved garage fire, with all occupants safely evacuated.

Fire crews faced challenges as flames extended into the attic, made more difficult by the home’s complex roof design. Firefighters used both exterior and interior attack lines to combat the blaze, which was declared under control at 12:37 a.m.

One SMFR firefighter sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The firefighter has since been released. Investigators determined the fire was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials.
