Williamsburg, VA, October, 26, 2001-On Veterans Day Weekend (Saturday, Nov. 10, through Monday, Nov. 12), active, reserve, and retired U.S. military personnel, firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and Red Cross workers and their families are invited to participate in a special Colonial Williamsburg weekend. Admission will be free. Valid ID is required.
Qualified guests will be given substantial weekend discounts at any Colonial Williamsburg Hotel in addition to free admission.
Among the weekend highlights will be a special program and parade Saturday honoring firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and Red Cross workers; members of those groups are invited to participate. On Sunday, there will be a Veterans Day parade and program in which veterans groups will participate. U.S. Senator John Warner (R-VA), former chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and currently its ranking minority member, will be the featured speaker.
Other weekend programs will include performances by Colonial Williamsburg’s Fife and Drum Corps; special appearances by Patrick Henry, Martha Washington, and other leading 18th-century figures; participatory colonial military programs; and demonstrations of 18th-century firefighting.
The special weekend, “Honoring Service to America: A Colonial Williamsburg Veterans Day Weekend Tribute to the Nation’s Military and Public Safety Personnel,” is also open to the public (tickets will be required.
