Columbus (OH) Firefighter Struck by Lightning Faces Daunting Road to Recovery

While attending a charity event this June, Columbus (OH) Fire Lieutenant Stu Tudor was struck by lightning and went into cardiac arrest. He has since managed to recover somewhat, but still faces daunting challenges ahead.

Tudor has been a firefighter for 23 years, according to Lisa Watford, his girlfriend. The day of the lightning strike he was donating his time as a board member for Get Behind The Badge, a first responders organization that helps raise money for police officers and firefighters who are injured in the line of duty.

“We are now four months  into this, with our future unknown,” Watford said in an e-mail to Fire Engineering. “We are looking at a lifetime of hospitals, doctors, rehab facilities, home care, and the list goes on and on.”

Watford has set up an online donation site at gofundme.com/cpvsrs for those interested in providing assistance.
