SEPTEMBER 17-21—The 1989 NORFOLK FIREFIGHTER’S COURSE will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia by the Norfolk Aviation Firefighter’s School. Subjects include site preservation for investigative purposes, commercial and commuter aircraft familiarization, military and general aviation aircraft, and aircraft accident case studies. SEPTEMBER 18-22—Two ADVANCED LEVEL ROPE RESCUE courses will be taught in New York, New York. Advanced Rescue 1 is designed for veteran rescue personnel with some field experience and covers rescue team development, reaction response evolution, and litter techniques with attendants. Advanced Rescue II emphasizes teamwork through leadership and consists of various problem-solving evolutions assigned to student teams. SEPTEMBER 18-22—A 40-hour course on TECHNICIAN LEVEL EMERGENCY RESPONSE win be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by the Center for Hazardous Materials Research. SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 1-The annual training event SAR CITY USA will take place at Barstow Community College in Barstow, California. The classes, demonstrations, case studies, and displays relate to search and rescue in all settings. The event is sponsored by the Sheriffs Barstow Desert Rescue Squad, the State of California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, and the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department. OCTOBER 2-5—The 20th annual NEBRASKA FIRE AND ARSON INVESTIGATION CONFERENCE in Grand Island, Nebraska provides hands-on training by taking participants to the fireground to investigate fires that have been set and extinguished. OCTOBER 9-11 — A session on SPILL CONTROL TRAINING will be held by Ansul in Marinette, Wisconsin. It will teach how to identify hazardous materials, choose appropriate response agents, and initiate the proper response.
