FIREMAN’S FUND INSURANCE COMPANY will offer 13 fire departments a total of $130,000 in grant package funding designed to help make communities safer. The grants will range in size from $3,000 to nearly $21,000. Twenty-four departments across the country were originally nominated for grants by Fireman’s Fund employees. A group of Atlanta-area employees and independent agents chose the grant recipients during a day-long selection process. The initiative is designed to provide needed equipment, training, and educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,700 departments totaling more than $28 million www.firemansfund.com.

Eight Ohio companies representing Ohio’s fire and emergency services manufacturers and suppliers hosted an event at the AKRON BRASS COMPANY to showcase and illustrate the quality products made in the state and used to protect lives all over the world. The event gave manufacturers the opportunity to demonstrate their products and impress on government leaders how critical it is for their communities to support those locally owned manufacturers, or “Buy Ohio,” when making equipment purchases. Among the Ohio companies that took part in the event were Action Coupling & Equipment, Fire Safety International, and Honeywell First Responder Products. Speakers included Congresswoman Betty Sutton and Congressman Jim Renacci www.akronbrass.com.

The INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR BUSINESS & HOME SAFETY will provide grants of approximately $500 to $1,000 to fund Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) homeowner protection programs for small and rural volunteer fire departments. The program, designed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs, teaches individuals who live in high-risk wildfire areas how to best prepare themselves and their properties. Program materials provide fire departments with the tools, resources, and guidance necessary to deliver simple, actionable safety message to residents. The grants are criteria-set and requests will be made through a formal process that is peer-reviewed to ensure effective use and need www.wildlandfireRSG.org.
