>> COLUMBIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY (CSU) awarded a Learning Partner Scholarship to Susquehanna (PA) Regional EMS Paramedic Platoon Chief Jeffrey Hutchins. Hutchins, who is also an assistant chief with Willing Hand Hose Co. No. 1 in Montoursville, Pennsylvania, has worked for Susquehanna Regional EMS for 17 years. The Learning Partner Scholarship, which is awarded to employees/members of companies or organizations that partner with CSU, covers tuition for up to 24 months for one specific CSU online degree program. The scholarship is awarded six times a year. >> The FIREFIGHTER CANCER SUPPORT NETWORK (FCSN) and the FIRE SMOKE COALITION partnered during FDIC 2012 to bring national attention to the cancer, illness, disease, and cardiac-related deaths that afflict the fire service. Three years ago, the Coalition and RAE Systems, Inc. partnered to provide free two-day training programs focused on awareness, prevention, protection, detection, diagnosis and treatment relative to fire smoke, followed by a burn practical which instructs firefighters how to perform atmospheric monitoring on every fireground scene. The Coalition and the FCSN will now participate in these conferences to promote prevention through proper air management and maintaining clean bodies and PPE.
