>> The NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS FOUNDATION (NFFF) has partnered with COLUMBIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY (CSU) to create the Scholarship Program for Spouses and Life Partners of Fallen Firefighters. NFFF and CSU will award a two-year scholarship to an eligible spouse or life partner of a fallen firefighter who has been honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Applications will be accepted through December 31, 2013. The awardee must enroll within 90 days of receiving the scholarship and maintain enrollment and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 for undergraduate or 3.5 for graduate level work. >> E-ONE was awarded a contract for 18 custom eMAX™ pumpers from the United States Air Force. The eMAX pumpers are a top-mount configuration on a Typhoon® chassis with a long cab. The pumpers will feature a 1,250 gallons-per-minute pumping capability, a 500-gallon water tank, and a 30-gallon integral foam cell. >> The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) received the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program-Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to support “A School Year of Fire Safety,” a project to educate children on fire safety and “Firefighter Training for Electric, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Fleets, Trucks & Buses.” NFPA will receive $990,000. “A School Year of Fire Safety” will create materials to reach preschool through third grade students, while the Electric Vehicle Safety Training Project will help firefighters and other first responders prepare for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States. www.nfpa.org/education. www.evsafetytraining.org.

>> The CARMEL (IN) FIRE DEPARTMENT (CFD) received Accredited Agency Status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The international accreditation is a comprehensive self-assessment and evaluation model that enables organizations to examine past, current, and future service levels and internal performance and compare them to industry best practices worldwide, which leads to improved service delivery. >> PHYSIO-CONTROL has partnered with THE PULSEPOINT FOUNDATION to improve sudden cardiac arrest survival. The partnership is aimed at meeting the growing public safety agency demand for the PulsePoint CPR/AED mobile app and expands citizen responder CPR and public access AED networks. The PulsePoint app alerts CPR-trained citizens by Smartphone of a cardiac arrest victim nearby and provides the location of the nearest public access AEDs. In addition, the PulsePoint Foundation announced an update to the app including improvements to the user interface.
