SYMTRON SYSTEMS, INC. completed an advanced live fire training system at the Washington, D.C. Fire Training Academy. Installed in a newly constructed, three-story burn building, the facility has six propane-fueled fire simulations-storage, electrical, gas meter, living room, kitchen, and bedroom-and provides two flashover effects. The computer-controlled system allows for the creation of advanced fire scenarios. Fire, heat, and smoke can spread from room to room. If trainees apply insufficient extinguishing agent to the fire, the fire automatically reflashes. Emergency stop buttons and gas-detection systems that can automatically extinguish the fire and ventilate the training compartment enhance safety.

The 23-foot illustrated mural, designed and donated by Seagrave employees and similar to the 9/11 memorial flag-raising image, was applied to both sides of the body to depict a front view of the flag raising on one side and the back view on the other. All New York replacement units will carry a custom bronze-cast medallion mounted to the cab front depicting the Statue of Liberty with New York City in the background. The medallion’s inscription reads “Dedicated to New York’s Bravest-9-11-01.”
