THORN AUTOMATED SYSTEMS has announced that LANCE KAISER, product manager of Fire/Ufe-Safety, has been named to the Automatic Fire Alarm Association’s board of directors. During his two-year term on the board through May of 1994, Kaiser will represent manufacturing members. Kaiser, who has more than 22 years in the fire/life safety industry, has been with THORN for four years.

PAUL HUSTON, vice president of government sales for AMEREX CORPORATION, won die National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors’ 1992 “Fredriksen Award” for his consistent contributions to NAFED and the overall fire equipment industry.

The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has awarded a contract to the technical support services company EEI to revise and update two of the agency’s major publications, the Arson Resource Directory and the Fire and Arson Investigators’ Field Index Directory. Under the contract’s terms, EEI and project manager Colin A. Campbell will contact all addressees in both directories to verify the listings’ accuracies. In addition, national, state, and local organizations will be contacted for input on possible deletions and revisions.

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy has awarded a SI.9 million, five-year research contract to WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE. which under the contract’s term will join forces with HUGHES ASSOCIATES, a Maryland fire protection engineering consulting firm, and Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) to provide support for research on a variety of delivery orders to be issued by the Coast Guard.

LOCKERT-JACKSON AND ASSOCIATES, INC.. celebrated the fifth anniversary of its monthly training program EMERGENCY MEDICAL UPDATE, which was created by Nina Jackson and Ellen Lockert. It is currently used by 93,000 individuals worldwide.

The City and County of San Francisco Office of Emergency Services has joined with MESSAGE PROCESSING OF CALIFORNIA, INC., San Marcos, in an entrepreneurial partnership to enhance disaster preparedness. MFC will install its NovAlcrt'” emergency response and notification system in the city’s emergency command system at no cost. The city’ will own the system in five years; in the interim, revenue will be generated through the sale of notification service subscriptions to businesses and private individuals.
