Fire-End & Croker Corporation, headquartered in Elmsford, NY, is a major supplier of interior fire protection products. The company has announced the opening of its Croker-West Division in Los Angeles at 4865 Exposition Boulevard.

A full-service warehouse at that location will inventory fire department connections, rack stations, fire cabinets, fire hose, fire department valves, and related equipment to serve the requirements of the Western region.

Walt Russell will be the regional manager. Emphasis will be on service and delivery, according to Russell. States included in the Western region are Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

W.S. Darley & Co., a fire apparatus and pump manufacturer, as well as a distributor of fire, police, and municipal equipment headquartered in Melrose Park, IL, has announced the addition of William J. Bartolotta to its sales staff. His responsibilities will include the sale, promotion, and demonstration of Darley fire apparatus and pumps.

Bartolotta will serve customers and prospects in Illinois and other midwestern states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Iowa. He will also be available to work with customers throughout the United States who are not currently serviced by Darley area sales representatives.

Previously, Bartolotta was a sales and marketing representative for a fire truck chassis manufacturer.

Mako Compressors, located in Ocala, FL, has officially changed its name to CompAir Mako following the 1979 takeover by CompAir, Ltd., located in Berkshire, England. Both companies manufacture air and gas compressor systems.

The standard line of CompAir Mako’s products, which are used in industrial, scuba diving, and fire and safety and rescue applications, includes compressors from 2 to 85 cfm. In addition, their air and water-cooled compressors have a pressure range from 150-5,000 psig. The company also offers accessories, air storage systems, and air purification packages.

Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA) of Pittsburgh, PA, has opened a new repair center at 8630 Mississippi Street in Merrillville, IN, near the steel town of Gary, IN.

The modem, 4,000-square-foot facility will allow MSA to quickly respond to the repair needs of its customers in parts of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan, as well as all of Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota.

It is one of nine new repair centers MSA has established across the country to better service customers by reducing shipping distances and repair times. This center will service and repair MSA portable instruments and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Firepro, Inc., a fire consulting firm headquartered in Wellesley Hills, MA, has announced one promotion and three new additions to its staff.

Robert Brian Cummings has been promoted to the position of associate. Cummings, who has been with the firm for two and one half years, will play a big role in delivering consulting services to Firepro clients in the areas of building design, construction projects, and the reconstruction of major fire incidents, according to company President Rexford Wilson. Before joining Firepro in 1982, Cummings served as systems engineer for Fenwal Inc., Ashland, MA.

Russell Albert Deubler has accepted the position of engineer at Firepro Inc. Before joining the company, Deubler was a loss prevention consultant for two years with the Factory Mutual Engineering Association, Norwood, MA.

Also joining the Firepro staff in the position of engineer is Edward Robert Comeau. Before joining the company, Comeau served at the University of Massachusetts in several capacities, including fire marshal in the Environmental Health and Safety Section. He was also a staff assistant in the Physical Plant Department. In addition, Comeau was an active firefighter and emergency medical technician in the Amherst Fire Department, Amherst, MA.

Another new staff member, Edward Allen Lemerise, has accepted the position of analyst at Firepro, Inc. Lemerise has much experience as a fire and arson investigator. He has developed curriculum material in fire prevention and fire investigation and is an active speaker on these subjects.

Hydra-Shield Manufacturing Inc. of Irving, TX, announced that they have been awarded a $900,000 purchase order from the City of New York to provide vandal-proof fire hydrant caps.

This is the company’s third order in a year from New York City, according to HydraShield President Henry J. Stehling. The company had previously received orders for over $900,000 for caps on all new hydrants to be installed in the city for one year. This latest award is to expand protection of existing fire hydrants in Manhattan, Bronx, and Brooklyn. It will enable the city to secure in excess of 20,000 hydrants.

The patented Hydra-Shield vandal-proof caps are one component in the company’s line of products for eliminating vandalism and theft of water from municipalities.
