Joseph H. Burdi, plant manager of Vanton Pump & Equipment Corp., recently accepted the Vaaler Award at the Fire Safety Directors Association-Metropolitan New York City Chapter meeting. The award is presented by Chemical Processing Magazine to manufacturers who have introduced major innovations that contribute to the improvement of process industries operations. Burdi received the award in recognition of Vanton’s development of the HazMat Pump Kit System.

The system is designed to help plant personnel, safety specialists, and firefighters clean up dangerous chemical spills rapidly and safely. Because all the system components in contact with the liquids are made of engineered, industrial-grade plastics, the pump can safely vacuum almost any kind of corrosive or hazardous liquid, vapor, or combination.

At the ceremony, Burdi thanked the Fire Department of New York City for its assistance in developing the system.

Officers of Seagrave Fire Apparatus Inc. recently accepted the 1987 Governor’s New Product Award in recognition of designing and building the Rear Admiral 110 ladder truck. The award is sponsored by the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers, and the presentation was held at the capital building in Madison, Wis.

The 110-foot ladder truck is constructed of high-strength steel with additional reinforcement. The low overall height of the apparatus helps to eliminate clearance problems.

Seagrave, a wholly owned subsidiary of FWD Corp., also received the 1986 Governor’s New Product Award for its multiapplication chassis, the America.

H. Alfred Eberhardt, president of Hale Fire Pump Co., announced recently that an investment group has agreed to purchase all the stock of Hale and its operational subsidiary, Macomson Machine Co., from the Enterra Corp.

Enterra, a Houston-based company in the oil service business, was Hale’s parent corporation for approximately 10 years. Enterra has decided to concentrate its efforts in the oil and gas industry.

The investment group purchasing the Hale stock consists of officers of 1 lale and Macomson and the two partners of the U>s Angeles-based investment firm McBain, Rose Partners.
