The IFSTA EXECUTIVE BOARD has been announced for 1989-1990. The board is the sole policy-making authority for the association. MILTON MECKLER, president of The Meckler Group in Encino, California, received the Crosby Fields award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for his paper “Computer Analysis of Smoke Transport During a Hotel Fire.” A computer simulation program analyzed smoke movement and toxic gases emitted from burning materials during fires. The award, named after a former ASHRAE president who was a pioneer in several engineering industries, honors the best paper presented during the year.
CIGNA PROPERTY AND CASUALTY COMPANIES received the Congressional Fire Services Institute Partnership Award at the second annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner in Washington, D C. CIGNA was recognized for its support of the fire service and the CFSI. It has provided the CFSI with financial support and appointed William F. Jenaway, director CIGNA Loss Control Services, to a one-year term as CFSI’s director of external affairs.
