Computerized Information Network

NEWS

Fire service and EMS managers can take advantage of a new information network. The network utilizes a computerized “bulletin board” filled with notices, announcements and other news and information of interest to emergency personnel. The bulletin board can be accessed with a microcomputer and a connection to the telephone lines through a device called a modem.

The bulletin board operates at 300 baud and requires the user to enter two “carriage returns” when connection is made. In order to discourage use of the system by non-emergency personnel, those seeking access must answer a simple fire/EMS operational question. The bulletin board operates 24 hours a day. Except for standard phone charges, the bulletin board is free to all emergency personnel. Write: Michael Fay, P.O. Box 140, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
