Crash Kills Missouri Fire Chief Heading to Fire

A Missouri fire chief on his way to a fire call was killed in a crash Monday.

KY3 reports (http://bit.ly/1t8gkzi) that Eddie Johnson Jr., 45, was an Alton (MO) police officer as well as a firefighter. He was reportedly en route to a house fire six miles west of Alton when he lost control of his police cruiser, which went off the road and rolled several times. Johnson was ejected from the vehicle, according to the report.

An ambulance took Johnson to an area hospital but he did not survive. According to the report, state troopers do not think he was wearing his safety belt.

Johnson was a volunteer fire chief since 2010 and served as an officer for nine years, according to the report.
