Firefighters gained ground against fires in New Mexico and Colorado on Tuesday, although thousands of people remain unable to return to their homes, reports Reuters (http://trib.in/LZsb7s).
The fire in Colorado claimed the life of a woman whose remains were found in the ashes of a cabin where she lived alone outside of Fort Collins. She is the first casualty of this fire, called the High Park Fire, details the news outlet.
Firefighters have managed to cut containment lines around five percent of the fire’s perimeter. But, a fire official anticipates firefighters will be battling the fire for the next several weeks, if not the fall.
