Haddam (CT) Volunteer Fire Company, with mutual aid from East Haddam Fire Department, responded to a plane crash at 4 p.m. July 23 near the Connecticut River.
A single-engine plane, which took off from a nearby airport, spiraled down and crashed into the roof of a home. The pilot of the plane was extricated by passersby who witnessed the crash.
Haddam firefighters and East Haddam Ambulance personnel helped remove the pilot from the second story of the home. Life Star helicopter transported the pilot to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries. The homeowner was home at the time and was not injured.
The FAA, Connecticut State Police, and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are investigating.
