Dangers Of Gasoline Transportation Expressed
Concern over people transporting extra gasoline in automobiles as a result of the current gas shortage has been expressed by National Burn Victim Foundation (NBVF) President Harry J. Gaynor.
He pointed out that gasoline is a major cause of severe burns in the U.S. and added that when it is transported in a manner other than in the vehicle’s gas tank, it becomes a time bomb “killing and maiming people.”
Gaynor also pointed out that extra gasoline in containers marked “explosion proof” were not designed to be transported in cars nor kept in confined areas. He explained,”When stored in car trunks or in the passenger areas, these containers can emit vapors which can be ignited from such sources as ignition systems, radios, electric windows, CBs, cigarette lighter, etc. Occupants can be killed or burned severely when they gamble with gasoline.”
